Taking part in the 24 hours of Le Mans must be a highlight in any professional racing driver's career. Imagine finishing that race on the podium with your team mates placing first and second overall in gleaming silver arrow Mercedes racing cars.
It would be great if you got to keep the car wouldn't it? But of course that isn't possible... unless you're patient, and willing to wait for 30 years or so.
This particular Silver Arrow finally found it's way back to it's successful Le Mans peddler and it was time to restore it back to it's former glory.
When the car arrived, it was in generally good condition, but over the years, some of the features of the original car had been changed. The paint was tired, some of the stickers were wrong and it really deserved a full makeover to get it to where it needed to be.
Roof marker light had a faded red lens which was the wrong colour for the car.
Fortunately we were able to remove the red pigment from the inside of the lens and apply a green translucent paint.
The car arrived with wheel arch vents on the front end which were incorrect for the specification we were recreating so they were replaced with these smooth ones.

The brake ducts in the nose of the car were incorrect as the holes were too small.
We reworked them to have the correct sized inlets.
These removable ducts were only fitted for the Le Mans races.
This distinctive cockpit ventilation intake duct was missing from the car so we manufactured this one from scratch using original photos for reference.
With the cockpit ventilation inlet now fitted, we turned to the rear of the cockpit where outlet ducts were made and applied.
