Intrepid RM-1

The RM-1 was commissioned in 1990 by Jim Miller of Jim Miller Racing, who up until then had been campaigning a Spice SE89P. Jim wanted a new car to compete in the IMSA GTP Championship.

The highly experienced Bob Riley created and built the car featuring a carbon fibre chassis and a high downforce body design. The car featured a 6.5 litre Chevrolet V8 engine, built by Katech, producing 800Hp.

Early testing in 1991 showed the car to be very quick in the corners, but the the high downforce really affected it's high speed performance.

In it's debut year, the RM-1 proved competetive despite it's power deficit to some of the other cars and notched up a number of podiums before it's first victory in the hands of Tommy Kendall in New Orleans.

This fourth and final RM-1 entered 9 races in 1992 but retired from 6 of them with a variety of mechanical difficulties. A best finish of 2nd was achieved by Tom Kendall at the Road Atlanta Grand Prix.
